The People's Musical

Blood Brothers
By Willy Russell

Over 10,000,000 people have already seen this fabulous production. Every night audiences stand and cheer.

Hailed by critics as 'the greatest musical of the decade', this international smash hit has scooped up four awards for Best Musical in London, seven Tony nominations on Broadway and received three Olivier awards - Blood Brothers is truly unforgettable.

Set in Liverpool, twin boys Eddie & Mickey are separated at birth when their poor, single mother can't take care of them both and gives one away to her wealthy employer. As much as they are kept apart, they find each other and secretly become 'Blood Brothers' until they are again separated.  Coincidentally they meet up as young men but tragedy strikes as the differences of class are apparent in their adult world of work and personal life.

Blood Brothers is a powerful production packed with tons of humour, action and gut-wrenching emotion. For those that missed it, you missed a real treat. Those that went know what a great show it was and we thank you for your support.

Blenheim Musical Theatre were  thrilled to be bring this wonderful musical to Marlborough audiences.

The Creative Team

Director

Blenheim Musical Theatre are pleased to have secured the directing talents of Christchurch Director Bryan Aitken.  A former Associate Director and original company member of The Court Theatre, Christchurch, Bryan has worked as an actor or director for most of New Zealand's major Theatre Companies. He has been awarded a QEII Arts Council Major Travel Grant, a Trustbank Arts Excellence Award, and The 1990 Commemorative Medal for his work with youth.

While a dramaturge/director for the NZBC, he adapted many stage plays for radio and also wrote for children's programmes. He has also held positions as Artistic Director of The Arts Employment Scheme, Artistic Director of the Road Show Trust, and Course Director for the Diploma in Performing Arts, Nelson Polytechnic.

He has been a guest Lecturer & Tutor at Western Australia Academy of Performing Arts in Perth (WAAPA), and the National Academy of Singing and Dramatic Art in Christchurch (NASDA). Bryan is recognized as one of the country's top Drama Adjudicators, and has a national youth award named after him.

Bryan continues to freelance out of The Court Theatre as a Tour Manager, Director, and Tutor. His work is as diverse as the magnificent "Les Miserables" to a one woman show "The Mourning After". He was recently appointed an Associate of The Court, an honorary position recognizing his length of service.

Musical Director

Needing no introduction to most locals and receiving much acclaim for his amazing achievements in the musical field, especially with brass bands, Kevin Moseley heads up our team of musicians for this wonderful show.

Kevin’s passion and dedication to his field was recently recognized when he received the Queen’s Service Medal in the New Year Honours list. Kevin has led many orchestras for Blenheim Musical Theatre over the years and we were thrilled to have Kevin at the helm again.

Vocal Coach

Con O’Brien is a familiar face to many locals and has again  guided us vocally as we sung those tremendously uplifting and beautiful songs.

Con teaches music at Marlborough Boys College when he’s not tutoring singing in his private time and he is often lending a hand to vocal coach the singing in many local theatre productions.

Production Manager

A special thanks goes to our Production Manager Kelly Webster. Her work was greatly appreciated.
