It needs no introduction - GREASE is the word!
Since it began on Broadway in 1972 Grease’s place has been firmly
established in the cultural hall of fame, having seduced the hearts of
millions with its back-to-back sizzling tunes including You're The One
That I Want, Grease Is The Word, Summer Nights, Hopelessly Devoted To You,
Greased Lightnin’ and many, many more!
It’s the perfect feel-good family show, and
will be a fantastic outing for all the family – this slice of 50s
Americana is guaranteed to have even granny hand-jiving in the aisle.
Written by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, GREASE
will be rocking 'n' rolling at the Marlborough Civic Theatre.
GREASE has proved that a musical love story,
bursting with denim, cheerleaders, slick hairstyles and raging teenage
hormones is timeless.
As leader of the Burger Palace Boys, the rebel
‘Danny Zuko’ oozes sex appeal and can have any ‘chick’ he desires.
High School is only an excuse to flirt with the ‘bombshells’, get up
to mayhem and smoke cigarettes. Along comes ‘Sandy Dumbrowski’ – a
true beauty but a real square – and the chase is on!
So come and join Danny & Sandy, along with
those groovy Burger Palace Boys, sassy Pink Ladies and the whole gang at
Rydell High for this high octane rock 'n 'roll party - IT'S THE MOST
ELECTRIFYIN' EXTRAVAGANZA on stage!
SUMMER NIGHTS AT MARLBOROUGH’S
CIVIC THEATRE ARE GONNA BE A BLAST!

Director
Blenheim Musical Theatre are pleased to have
secured the directing talents of Christchurch Director Bryan Aitken. A
former Associate Director and original company member of The Court
Theatre, Christchurch, Bryan has worked as an actor or director for most
of New Zealand's major Theatre Companies. He has been awarded a QEII Arts
Council Major Travel Grant, a Trustbank Arts Excellence Award, and The
1990 Commemorative Medal for his work with youth.
While a dramaturge/director for the NZBC, he
adapted many stage plays for radio and also wrote for children's
programmes. He has also held positions as Artistic Director of The Arts
Employment Scheme, Artistic Director of the Road Show Trust, and Course
Director for the Diploma in Performing Arts, Nelson Polytechnic.
He has been a guest Lecturer & Tutor at
Western Australia Academy of Performing Arts in Perth (WAAPA), and the
National Academy of Singing and Dramatic Art in Christchurch (NASDA).
Bryan is recognized as one of the country's top Drama Adjudicators, and
has a national youth award named after him.
Bryan continues to freelance out of The Court
Theatre as a Tour Manager, Director, and Tutor. His work is as diverse as
the magnificent "Les Miserables" to a one woman show "The
Mourning After". He was recently appointed an Associate of The Court,
an honorary position recognizing his length of service. He is currently
their Core Tutor for a young adults theatre skills programme, TheatreWorks.

Choreographer
Working alongside Bryan to choreograph the show
is local dancer and teacher Kelly Webster. Kelly was born in Blenheim and
has been dancing since she was 5yrs old. Some years later she moved to
Christchurch to attend the National Ballet School and then moved up to
Wellington to complete an Advanced Certificate in Commercial Dance at the
Wellington Performing Arts Centre.
Whilst in Wellington Kelly was involved as a
dancer in many various corporate events including the Lord of the Rings
premiere, the International Rugby Sevens, and many rugby matches. Dancing
indoors also saw her involved in local theatre productions as a dancer,
dance captain and Directors Choreographic Assistant.
In 2004 Kelly joined Carnival Cruise Liners USA
as a dancer on the high seas which she enjoyed for two years.
Returning home to Blenheim, Kelly has been
involved with Marlborough Dance Centre as their jazz teacher and has been
choreographer for many local theatre and dance productions.

| Musical
Director
We
welcome Brian McNamara as our Musical Director for this extravaganza of
well-known songs. Brian was MD for Grease when it was last on in Blenheim,
a few years back now, and he liked it so much he wants to do it all again,
this time with Blenheim Musical Theatre as the producers.
Brian
is a familiar face to any theatre-goer in Blenheim as he is a regular
contributor to BMT shows, Marlborough Repertory and in fact most things
that involve singing/acting/dancing! Brian brings a wealth of musical
experience and talent to the fore and we look forward to his direction in
the pit!

Chorus Master
Con O’Brien is a familiar face to many locals
and has again agreed to guide us merrily along our musical way as the cast
fine tune all those wonderful Grease songs.
Con teaches music at Marlborough Boys College
when he’s not tutoring singing in his private time and he is often
lending a hand to vocal coach the singing in many local theatre
productions.
Grease is an amateur production by special arrangement
with Dominie Pty Ltd.
Book, Music and Lyrics by Jim Jacobs
and Warren Casey
